Nearly ten years ago today, I was 100 pounds overweight and technically considered morbidly obese. I was plagued with severe anxiety and depression, and was on the verge of signing up for a Xanax prescription. I drank to excess almost every night and had a serious problem with portion control. I was reckless and headed down a very self-destructive path.
My life and health were out of control.
My body was unhealthy, my mind was muddled, and my soul was buried beneath all the bad habits, slowly dying beneath the crushing levels of toxicity in my life.
For so many years, the overall theme of my life was: ‘STRUGGLE.’ Bad health, obesity, financial hardships, dysfunctional relationships, and romantic struggles. Aside from my career, which was soul-sucking and draining (but lucrative), my life was in shambles.
Of course some years were better than others, but in general, the struggle was always there.
Throughout a good part of my life experimenting with various fad diets, weight loss pills, and exercise plans, I would manage to lose around 10 pounds about once a year. But like so many people struggling with their weight, I was never able to keep it off for good. Even though I tried everything, it seemed like nothing worked long-term.
Eventually I became convinced that being overweight was hardwired into my genes, and that I was destined to be large for the rest of my life.
So how did I eventually lose 100 pounds and keep it off for good? I am asked this question a lot, which is the reason I have chosen to write this book.
The short answer is: I lost the weight through yoga and a plant-based diet.
The long, detailed answer lies within the pages of this book.
But to temporarily make a long story short, my transformation happened when I accidently discovered a path that led to the end of my destructive habits and the never-ending cycle of struggle. And that somewhat accidental path began with yoga, which eventually led me to a plant-based diet.
Once I embarked upon this new journey of healing, my entire life began to change for the positive. This is precisely when everything started to improve, when the universe began to work in my favor, and when I lost all the weight – FOR GOOD.
I now refer to this path as The Organic Transformation, which morphed into its own health and wellness business years later.

- A few years later, I then relocated from California to the South Pacific to teach yoga under the coconut palms (I had wanted to live on a tropical island for my entire life).
- A few years after that, I started writing books and became a published author.
- Within the next few years, I started two online businesses: The Organic Transformation and PLANT-Based Essentials.
If I can change my life in such a dramatic way, SO CAN YOU! The goal of writing this book is to share my personal story with you, so that you can see how I succeeded against all odds. My hope is that through my roller-coaster of experiences, you will be able to apply the lessons I’ve learned to your own situation, in a way that will ultimately benefit your health and overall life.
Not everyone has the same dreams. No one is saying that you have to pick up and move to an island in the middle of nowhere like I did. But whatever your dreams are, and whatever your starting point is, you can bring forth the same level of success I did – in your own unique way.
By the end of this book, my hope is that you will have a clear understanding of just how beneficial and potent living a conscious lifestyle can be. I hope that you will be inspired to overcome any obstacles in your way, no matter how dire your situation may seem at times.
